I first made the decision to volunteer with Citizens Advice Gateshead as it seemed like a great chance to both develop my own personal skills and utilise them to help the more vulnerable members of our society. In my role as an advisor, I have developed such skills as interviewing clients to gain a greater insight into their issues, providing advice and information on a range of different issues, and dealing with clients in a sensitive manner.
The opportunity to build these skills in a supportive environment has not only brought me great personal satisfaction but has also been great preparation for my future legal career.
Something that I really enjoy about volunteering with Citizens Advice Gateshead is the fact that learning is an ongoing process; with each client comes different issues, and so I am continuing to learn about different things, whether that be the tax and financial implications of being self-employed, or the PIP appeals process. I also find it very rewarding to be able to provide clients with information that they otherwise wouldn’t have known about, especially when this can help to resolve their problems.
