HR Assistant Vacancy

Citizens Advice Gateshead is an independent local charity with an annual turnover approaching £4m, a workforce of 170 people and a growing volunteer community.

The HR Assistant role is key to the accuracy and reliability of the People function of the charity and its trading subsidiary. Responsibilities will include:

  • Administering, monitoring and reporting on a wide range of employee and volunteer* data using cloud-based HR system, including starters*, leavers*, attendance*, sickness, absence, holidays, salaries, benefits, ensuring a high level of confidentiality and compliance with GDPR;
  • Providing information to the Finance team to support with payroll-related issues;
  • Handling the full recruitment process for staff and volunteers, including placing adverts, monitoring responses, preparing for interviews, communicating with candidates and induction planning;
  • Preparing offer letters and contracts of employment and handling all pre-start processes including references and right to work checks;
  • Being the first point of contact for HR queries and support, providing excellent customer service in a helpful and friendly manner;
  • Advising line managers on the application of policies and procedures, and identifying areas for procedural improvement to maximise our efficiency;
  • Maintaining training calendar and individual training records, and issuing certificates associated with non-accredited learning and development;
  • Identifying training needs through analysis of performance management records, appraisals and training requests;
  • Handling minutes, records and correspondence associated with grievance, conduct and capability;
  • Providing support to the People Development Manager, and contributing to the day to day activities of the busy, motivated People Team.

Annual Salary

£21,000 to £23,500 per annum, dependent on experience

Hours

37 hours per week (Flexible working hours and TOIL apply to this role)

Job share would be considered

Holidays

22 days plus bank holidays (increasing based on service to 30 days plus bank holidays for staff with 10 years service or more)
