How we helped Sacha with Repairs and Compensation in her Property

As part of our social welfare team, our housing experts deal with complex housing cases. Below is a success story of someone who contacted us in desperate need of help:

Background

Meet Sacha (name changed for confidentiality), a client who approached our service due to disrepair issues affecting her local housing authority property. The ongoing repairs had a significant detrimental impact on her household, and the length of time they had been outstanding for had started to take a toll on her mental health and wellbeing. To make matters worse, a bat roost had become established, exacerbating the repair issues further.

What we did

We supported Sacha in commencing the pre-action protocol process under disrepair claims, utilizing the evidence provided in photographs, videos, and the disclosure documents provided.

We gave Sacha advice and support based on her information and what we learned from the landlord. With her permission, we started the process for making a claim about the disrepair. We used the evidence provided by the local authority's improvement notice to show that the landlord didn't meet their legal obligations, such as maintaining a good living environment.

The difference we made

We were able to make a real difference for Sacha, by providing her with advice about her rights and responsibilities and ensuring that she received the compensation she deserved.

  1. We helped Sacha get compensation from the landlord for their failure to repair their property.
  2. Sacha received a combined benefit of £4903.73, without needing to go to court.
  3. The housing authority confirmed that Sacha would be given priority for alternative accommodation due to long-term delays caused by bat conservation.

We were able to make a real difference for Sacha, by providing her with advice about her rights and responsibilities and ensuring that she received the compensation she deserved. If you are experiencing similar issues, please do not hesitate to contact us - we are here to help.
