How we helped Logan with their mortgage arrears

Background

Recently we helped Logan (name changed for confidentiality), who was at risk of losing their home due to mortgage arrears. They were struggling to keep up with the payments because the interest rates on their mortgage had gone up too high, and they couldn't afford to pay them with their current income. To make matters worse, their mortgage term was ending soon, so they didn't have many options available to them.

What we did

Our charity provided them with advice and support, based on the information they gave us. We helped them understand their choices and the steps they could take to avoid further financial losses. We also represented them in court, where we got the hearing adjourned. This was because the lender was shown to have acted unfairly towards our client. Later, we convinced the lender to agree to a voluntary sale, which would protect our client's equity in the property.

The difference we made

Thanks to our help, Logan was able to understand their options and take steps to avoid losing their home. We fought for their rights in court and made sure that their financial interests were protected:

1. We gave them advice on what they could do to protect their rights and meet their responsibilities.
2. We spoke up for them in court and got an outcome that was fair and reasonable.
3. We made sure that our client's equity in the property was protected.

We're still working with Logan to find a new place to live that meets their needs.
