Citizens Advice Gateshead is proud to work alongside our colleagues in the Royal British Legion to support work that they do with veterans of the armed forces, their dependants and carers. As part of our free and impartial advice and guidance, we can refer clients to the Royal British Legion, alongside the support we provide.
The Royal British Legion offers several services to veterans of the armed forces, armed forces personnel and their dependants and carers.
The Independent Living Advice Service offers a high quality, friendly and professional service to live safe and well at home. Support can be given face to face, over the phone or by email, helping beneficiaries free advice, support and advocacy.
The Handy Vans Service is a free service providing maintenance to allow beneficiaries to remain safe in their home. From changing light bulbs to building access ramps, the experienced, accredited and DBS checked handy people provide a high quality professional service.
The Royal British Legion can also help with benefit and debt advice, outreach support and other services.
For assistance from The Royal British Legion, you must have served for 7 days in the armed forces, and to receive free assistance from the Handy Vans Service, you must be aged 70 or over, or under 70 and on a means tested benefit or under 70 and classed as vulnerable.
