Stephen Bell OBE

"In a time of crisis and uncertainty you became a beacon and huge support … a lifeline in fact."

Stephen is passionate about being a voice for the people in society who face the most challenging of circumstances. He has received national recognition for the work he has done including the Voluntary Sector Entrepreneur of the Year Award and was privileged to receive a Queens Honour for his services to the homeless.

As Chief Executive of Changing Lives, Stephen is dedicated to supporting people through whatever issues they face and to lead a fulfilling life. His experience covers serving on various National and Regional Governance Committees dedicated to steering change for those effected by homelessness and related issues. Stephen’s early career was shaped in the private sector, with a financial and business background, working through to become Chief Executive for a growing charity.

Among other interests, Stephen is part of Collective Voice who work to ensure that the drug and alcohol treatment sector, and those who use the services, are adequately heard and receive effective recovery focused services. Stephen is involved in the Newcastle Healthy Futures group who are committed to working towards a single, coherent and evidence based approach to well-being and he sits on the Housing Board for the North of Tyne.  Stephen continues to pioneer the employment of people with lived experience at Changing Lives and is proud that 20 percent of his workforce has lived experience. As Chief Executive of Changing Lives Stephen feels privileged to work with people who want to see real change and make a real difference to others in a time of real crisis.
