How Volunteering Inspired Kate

Kate began volunteering with Citizens Advice Gateshead three years ago, as she started her law degree at Northumbria University. In fact, her road to studying law was influenced by an earlier insight into the work of Citizens Advice. Previously, a relative had sought help from the service and Kate had accompanied them to their appointment. The experience was so good that it left a lasting impression on her, and led to her decision to study law.

After her initial training, Kate has worked on reception and as a generalist adviser. She currently also acts as session support - a role for a more experienced member of the team to support other volunteers in the delivery of general advice.

Kate enjoys volunteering with Citizens Advice Gateshead because of the people she works with, the good atmosphere and the satisfaction of helping the clients. She is currently undertaking her Legal Practice Course (LPC) and hopes to become a solicitor in family law.
