How Judith Volunteered Forward

Judith began volunteering with the service 13 years ago, when it was Gateshead Citizens Advice Bureau based on Regent Terrace. As a mother of school-aged children who was also studying part-time, Judith was seeking an opportunity to use her spare time in doing something that was intellectually stimulating.

Her decision to volunteer with Citizens Advice Gateshead was inspired by her mother, who herself had volunteered when Judith was young, for the same reason.

Starting as a drop-in general adviser, Judith worked at the Blaydon drop-in service - which is still in operation today. Aside from helping people, Judith enjoyed the work for the stimulation that she experienced by her constant learning during advice work. After two years as a volunteer, she was employed by the charity as a paid adviser.

Over the years, Judith has progressed through the charity and she is now a member of the leadership team, heading up all service delivery for the charity - so you could definitely say that Judith has 'volunteered forward'!
