Webinars open the doors of charity to North East business

Heads of Gateshead charity Citizens Advice Gateshead have joined up with leaders of charity, business, education and health across the North East to hold a series of webinars in an attempt to fill the gap between region's charities and the business community.

9 panelists will participate in 3 webinars themed on 'The Business of Charity' during November, including business leader James Ramsbotham CBE DL recently appointed Chair of Newcastle Building Society, Steven Beharall Head of Newcastle United Foundation which was recently nominated North East Charity of the Year 2021, and Professor Greta Defeyter BSc PhD CPychol FRSA FHEA FBPs, a Director of the Health Living Lab at Northumbria University who has undertaken extensive research into food insecurity and holiday hunger.

Social entrepreneur and charity director Jayne Graham MBE will be hosting the online events.

"Our aim for these webinars is very simple. We just want to start a dialogue that will help us to fill the gap that exists between what's commonly referred to as the 'third sector' and the private sector business community.

Charities across the North East are doing miracles every day with limited resources, and many of the people we support are actually employed by  the region's businesses. We could all achieve so much more if the business community and the charity sector were better connected. We need to improve our mutual understanding and ownership of the issues we need to work on together, to tackle some of the serious challenges we're facing in society."

The free sessions will each have a business theme, exploring why the order book is always full,  how social value brings economic gain, and how we can close the gap to work together with a shared purpose.  Each of the events is free to attend for anyone who has an interest in getting involved in the discussion.
