12 Causes at Christmas - Helping real people keep a roof over their head

Each year our team of skilled advisers help people who live or work in Gateshead to resolve  tens of thousands of issues. In December, we highlight 12 of those issues, illustrating what a difference being able to get impartial, free advice can have, and why we need more resources to continue to help real people with real problems find real solutions, now and into the new year.

Helping real people keep a roof over their head

The threat of a family losing their home can be one of the most devastating things that can happen - be it caused by wrongful eviction, a house falling into disrepair without a response from the landlord, or problems with neighbours stemming from harassment or disputes. In the winter, especially around Christmas, these problems are increased, as the options to other accommodation are reduced. When the landlord doesn't respond, the next steps that they can take aren't always obvious, and the threat of a cold and uncertain future without one of the most basic human needs can contribute to problems with physical and mental health.

By supporting our 12 Causes at Christmas Appeal you can help us to help real people with real problems find real solutions.

Our housing advisers are seeing an increasing number of people facing real problems with their homes, with threats of eviction, houses that have become uninhabitable in the winter months or are facing threats and disruption from their neighbours. We make sure that people have the information and support they need to avoid having their homes taken away from them unfairly, and we also ensure that everyone involved understands and carries out their responsibilities. With our help, families can keep their homes, or find somewhere safe and warm to enjoy the end of the year and look forward to a better future.

With your support, we can help real people to tackle the issues that are threatening their homes and keep them and their families safe. If they are already homeless, we will help them find secure and affordable accommodation that meets the needs of their family. We help real people to find real, workable solutions to help keep a roof over their heads.
