Sita's Story

"In a time of crisis and uncertainty you became a beacon and huge support … a lifeline in fact."

Sita (name changed for confidentiality) is a 17-year-old female who lives with her parents and two elder siblings. Her mother, father and eldest sister all have complex physical and mental health issues, including in the father’s case Parkinson’s disease and mixed dementia. Sita has been offered a place at University but will have to live away from home. She cannot afford this and is concerned about her family.

We were able to help her with an application for a charitable grant to cover her deposit and essential items for her university flat. We also helped her complete a carer’s assessment and she was given help by Crossroads Carers, who specialise in assisting young carers.  She also accessed counselling to give her support and deal with issues of guilt.

By tackling the issues of being a carer early, Sita was able to arrange the support needed to look after her family and continue studying at university.
